Writer, Civil Engineer, Water Resources Specialist
I am from Curitiba, Brazil, graduated in Civil Engineering, with a Master and Doctorate in the Water Resources field. Until 2015, I worked as a Professor at Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA), one of the most prestigious engineering universities of Brazil. Since 2015, I have lived in Germany, where I have had the opportunity to work at Technische Universität Hamburg (TUHH) as a Research Scientist.
With a career stamped by professional prominence, with two honors of Excellence in Teaching and several technical articles published in scientific journals and international conferences, I decided to migrate to the area of non-scientific literature after the cultural shock faced with the change of country.
The author shares her trajectory and experience as a mother and professional in Brazil and in Germany, presenting the pros and cons of the social models in these two countries. Based on extensive bibliographic research, her impressions and concerns are sustained by several publications. Nadiane shares feelings of guilt, exhaustion and professional frustration, which affect most of those who wish exercise responsible and conscious parenting, while struggling to keep their professional careers.
Her research shows that the ends don’t always meet and the long-dreamed of life-work balance becomes just a fallacy, especially for women who are still responsible for most household chores and childcare. The data show that this imbalance is not limited to the borders of Brazil and Germany, but spread across several other countries, making it a global issue. The author proposes an avant-garde model in favor of a more balanced professional and personal life and of a healthier and more just society with true gender equity.
The book encourages debate and breaking paradigms.
